It was a glorious day and a solid 10 out of 10!! I
have been longing to use this Post Title since our arrival and finally
it is totally appropriate. The previous evening had seen a constant rain
downpour and the hot winds from Northern Africa and the cool
temperatures from Northern Europe combined for a most entertaining
lightning show which lasted most of the night. The results produced lush
greens, clean crisp morning air and slippery trails for hiking. Click on video below
Whether it was a local wine maker producing his latest vintage or stumbling onto an ancient Roman bath, there is always something around the next corner.
At some
point it felt like we had bypassed winter and spring again was at our
doorstep. Puffy, billowing clouds with blue skies and a backdrop second
to none. We did an approximate 15 km circular route through a number of
towns and a picnic spot overlooking a monastery off in the
distance. Steady as she goes as the climbing was not easy and quite
frankly the hiking was a lot tougher than I had anticipated.
Certainly
if anyone has the resources and wants to live out in real time the
story behind the movie Under the Tuscan Sun your imagination can be
replaced by reality. Lots of fixer uppers to be found in small, quaint
towns just waiting for someone to revive their memories and warm
surroundings. A hike down to the river or a trip to the market will
soothe any soul and replace life's hectic pace with a more civilized way
of life. Ahhhhhh.......we have to come back. I will return time and
again as my memories will keep me at peace and my pictures will be a
reminder of this enchanted region. Saluti!!
